The geographical situation of La Plagne

On the massif de la Vanoise is installed the resort of La Plagne. It is located in the department of Savoie in the region Auvergne – Rhône – Alpes in the heart of the Alps in front of Mon Blanc. Currently, there are eleven resorts, including seven high altitude resorts and four village resorts.

The history of the station

In 1961, Dr. Pierre Borrione had an idea to build a tourist resort in the village in order to help the villagers to fight against the desertification. In fact, the agricultural activity did not allow them to survive anymore.

After several deadlines, another developer followed closely the project with great success in the years 1966. Thus the development of the resort was very fast and very beneficial for the villagers, until it became the station internationally known that we have today.

The ski slopes of La PLagne

The ski area of the different resorts that make up La Plagne is called Grande Plagne. Its altitude ranges from 1250 to 3250 meters, and it offers at least 225km of runs.

Champagny en Vanoise, for example, is one of the 11 resorts, and is adapted to all levels, from beginner to professional, through the confirmed, the great skier, or the freerider. You can find different facilities like snowparks, boardercross or beginners’ areas, to introduce you to skiing in complete safety. Since 2003, Paradiski offers 425 klm of runs and a huge unmarked area. Famous itineraries off-piste, such as the north face of the Bellecôte summit or the Friolin and 95 ski lifts.
