The Puy de Dôme and its mountains
The Puy-de-Dôme takes its name from the largest of the volcanoes of the region. Its territory presents a great diversity (between mountains, lakes and forests); its main winter sports resorts are located 50 kilometers southwest of Clermont-Ferrand, in the Massif du Sancy, not far from the Puy du Sancy, which culminates at an altitude of 1866 meters. The Puy-de-Dôme, between volcanic landscape and small welcoming resorts, offers a handful of ski resorts including Besse Super Besse, Chastreix-Sancy, the Mont Dore as well as Prabouré.
The resorts of Mont-Dore (1350 m) and Super Besse (1350 m) each offer a total surface area of 87 kilometers of slopes connected by ski lifts. The common ski area extends from 1350 to 1850 meters, with slopes of all levels (15 green, nine blue, seven red and two black) connected by 18 lifts (two cable cars, three chair lifts and 13 drag lifts). Chastreix-SancyChastreix-Sancy, on the other hand (1350m), offers 16 km of trails (four green, four blue, three red, and two black) accessible by eight lifts with a maximum altitude of 1850 meters.
Further east, Prabouré Prabouré exemplifies all the advantages of a small ski destination where people like to meet for a day or two. Its ski area is not very large (only 7 slopes), but the sociability is guaranteed and the prices more than reasonable. The reputation of the diversity of sports Nordic that can be practiced in the Puy-de-Dôme is too big a fish to be caught. Cross-country skiing, Nordic hiking, snowshoeing, Nordic walking, dog sledding… So many opportunities to explore in complete autonomy and to find a privileged intimacy with nature on places covered with snow.
Besse Super Besse
Bessou Super Besse, located in the middle of the Parc Regional des Volcans d’Auvergne, merges two atmospheres. :
– The town of Besse, which was for a long time one of the domains of the Medicis, is remarkable for its architectural and historical past. It still has a rich architectural and historical past. It is a small, picturesque and lively village where conviviality and a sense of festivity mingle every day. 1050 meters above sea level: it is a village with artistic allure….
– The truly dynamic and lively ski resort, Super Besse, facing south-east, offers all the pleasures of skiing between 1300 and 1850 m altitude.
The ski resort of Besse Super Besse, ideal for sporty and family stays, will be as much appreciated by alpine ski lovers as by those who are passionate about new sports. In the heart of the Espace Nordique Sancy, between these two towns, the Pavin lake offers an unparalleled panorama to lovers of hiking and cross-country skiing.
Family activities « for all tastes » are offered at Bessière Super Besse, including wellness and regeneration for children and adults, family walks, cultural and recreational discoveries….
The new ski resort, signed « Famille Plus Montagne, » Besse Super-Besse offers the whole family the chance to discover as many snow and snow sports as possible during the day and warm entertainment and restaurants in the evening. The landscape, the climate, the activities and moments of joy or intimacy shared on an evening … Super Besse in Auvergne awaits you with all the mountain culture.
Le Mont Dore
Le Mont-Dore is a spa and one of the first classified ski resorts, located in the heart of the Parc Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne, on the northern slope of the Puy de Sancy (highest point of the Massif Central with its 1885 m), a mountain peak in France. It is located at an altitude of 3000 meters.
The ski resort of Le Mont-Dore, which lies at an altitude of 1050 m and is often referred to as the Little Chamonix, has been awarded the label « Famille Plus Montagne, » and today offers its various facets to visitors from all walks of life: there is something for everyone.
Le Mont-Dore, whose mountains and volcanoes are surrounded by thermal baths, is undoubtedly the most mountainous of the Auvergne’s thermal spas. It combines health, sport and entertainment to allow you to vary your pleasures by offering, for example, a Grand Sancy domain package, which doubles the stake by accessing the other great spa resort of the Puy de Sancy, on the southeast side: Super-Besse.
A warm set of bungalows at the foot of a human-sized ski area perched at an altitude of 1400 meters on the western flanks of the Massif du Sancy is the family-friendly ski resort of Chastreix Sancy, which is located on the western flanks of the Massif. The 360° panoramic view that this resort offers, thanks to the vast white plains that dot it, and its suspended jacuzzis to admire the landscapes of the region, is its first surprise. This Puy-de-Dôme resort offers skiers a feeling of total freedom and vast spaces on its 17 alpine ski slopes.
In addition, the site offers a delightful Nordic domain (from 1350 to 1450 m altitude, 46.6 km of discovery) as well as four snowshoeing itineraries in the heart of a protected nature.
Chastreix Sancy has developed a wide range of entertaining activities so that you will not miss anything but happiness. Since skiing alone in the mountains can only provide limited pleasure, Chastreix Sancy has devised a varied and well-supplied program. First of all, the timeless joys of sledding on a secure track: laughter guaranteed! Or this Great North adventure for the baptism of dog sledding, « cani-rando » (a ride pulled by a dog) or even learning to drive the sled, just to pretend to be a musher. Finally, to discover the Massif de Sancy off the beaten track, you can take a ski tour with the experts of the ESF.
The ski resort of Prabouré/Saint-Anthème, located in the Massif Central near the Crêtes du Forez, gives a breathtaking view of the Alps.
3 ski lifts serve 5 runs (one green, one blue and three red), which are extended East/South-East and adapted to all levels. The Jardin de Théo, with a snow wire, allows children to be introduced to the martial arts of skiing. From the age of four, they can run in complete safety between the legs of funny cows, as well as other foam toys, in a space entirely dedicated to the youngest. Snow cannons reinforce the snow cover of all the beginner areas for a guaranteed pleasure. All season long, you can enjoy the family area, which is perfectly suited to the first glides with the services of the ski school of the resort.
Why not try out the snake-gliss and share some amazing descents with the family after a great day of skiing?
In the 2000’s, Prabouré and the Hautes-Chaumes du Forez quickly gained the status of a snowkiting paradise! Take a look: 10 000 hectares of plateaus between 1300 and 1600 meters of altitude, magnificent landscapes at each sale, a continuous exposure…
The party atmosphere is the key word; it’s all about relaxing and having fun around the joys of snow in an exceptional and warm setting.
